TITLE: The Book that Eats People
AUTHOR: John Perry and Mark Fearing

Open this book if you dare, but be warned -- it eats people! Original and hilarious (and maybe a tiny bit scary for younger kids).

TITLE: Librarian on the Roof
AUTHOR: M.G. King
YEAR: 2010
M.G. King tells the true story of a Texas librarian who took to the roof of her town's library to call attention to the need to raise $20,000 for a new children's room. In the end she raises $40,000, builds the room, and brings a tear to my eye (who doesn't love a good library children's room?).

TITLE: Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don't)
AUTHOR: Barbara Bottner
YEAR: 2010
There are countless children's books that take on the task of encouraging kids to love reading. This one does so in a slightly less heavy-handed manner than most. A little girl doesn't realize how much fun reading can be until, with the help of her teacher, she finds the kind of books that interest her. (OK, maybe it is as heavy-handed as the rest!)

TITLE: Wild About Books
AUTHOR: Judy Sierra
YEAR: 2004
Judy Sierra has written some of my favorite lines in all of children's literature, like the following from this cute book about a librarian who drives her bookmobile into the zoo one day and inspires a love of reading in all of the animals: "Raccoons read alone and baboons read in bunches. And llamas read dramas while eating their lunches." Sierra's style is reminiscent of Dr. Suess's.
