TITLE: Fancy Nancy
AUTHOR: Jane O'Connor
YEAR: 2005
Like our Julia, Fancy Nancy wears colorful, ruffly, elaborate outfits, loves all things feminine and glittery, and has to put up with plain Jane parents. As expected, Nancy's Christmas cookies are over the top, and her rule of thumb for tree decoration is "there is no such thing as too much tinsel."

TITLE: The Polar Express
AUTHOR: Chris Van Allsburg
YEAR: 1985
The Polar Express is among our favorite Christmas books. It is about kids who are awakened on Christmas Eve by a train that takes them on an adventure to the North Pole to meet Santa. The boy is given a bell from the reindeer's harness, and only those who believe can hear the beautiful sound it makes. The ending always makes me cry. The book is much better than the 2005 animated movie based on it.
